The design of the vehicle
All vehicles are equipped
to facilitate the well-being of both driver and pigs. Furthermore, the
equipment of the vehicle should be as easy to clean as possible, as the level
of hygiene is an essential part of a healthcare system.

Above you see the inside of a one-storey SPF-vehicle. In the ceiling an air duct is located, which then distributes the filtered air on to the pigs. Hereafter the air is forced out through the ventilation openings in the side of the box. The driver is enabled to regulate the air supply from the driver's seat, depending on the temperature with the pigs inside.
By means of swinging dividers the body of carriage is always divided into minor spaces. Each room is equipped with a drinking valve to supply the pigs with fresh water during transport.
The floor has a non-slip surface, and, moreover, there is always a sufficient layer of wood shavings as bedding.
The cleaning equipment is placed in the front which is a specially designed high-pressure cleaner. This is used for washing and disinfecting all surfaces and edges on board of the vehicle.

The vehicle is equipped with at least three storage areas, which are separated from each other. One space is assigned for all of the clean equipment the driver needs to use, including an overall to be used during loading and unloading. A second space is assigned to any dirty equipment such as the used overall. A third space is used for the storage of any equipment used during loading, and which is to be re-used during unloading. The driver must never enter the driver's cab with dirty hands or clothes which he used during loading, unloading or washing. |
The top floor of a two-storey vehicle is in the process of being raised. Bedding is spread out onto the floor of the lower floor. The ceiling is raised by hydraulic pistons. It is lowered by its own weight, and when it is in driving position the distance from to floor is adapted to the pigs' weight.

The rear of the box is also loading lift. When it is closed, it is pressed firmly on to the box, so contaminants do not enter while driving. The lift can be tilted into a horizontal position and be lifted up and down with the pigs placed on it. Or it is set at an angle in order for the pigs themselves to go up or down from the body of carriage.
|
The roof of the body of carriage can be lifted in order to be raised during loading and unloading of the lower floor. Only like this sufficient space is available for the driver to stand/walk almost upright. While driving the roof must not be raised.

The driver's cab is fitted with modern equipment. Here the screen is visible on top, and is connected to external video cameras. One of them at the right side-view mirror and one for use while reversing. At the bottom the vehicle's computer for all of the driver's communication with the office is visible.

This computer can display the trip schedule, the route via GPS, and the SPF-Danmark's intranet. Inside the driver's cab there is also the control panel for the air conditioning system on board the vehicle. And an alarm that is activated in case that ventilation is at a standstill. This computer is also provided with a program that registers the fuel economy and the driving pattern of the chauffeur. All vehicles are set to a maximum of 85 km/h in order to save fuel and to ensure gentle transportation. |
